Whitetail deer is the most studied animal in the world to know its behavior towards the nature. Many studies are happened but we are still lack of proper knowledge about the deer. Dr. Bradley Cohen, the wildlife biologist reported the studies after studies have only invent little information about them.

There is no written document about the number of the studies on the whitetails but our knowledge reached to only 10 percent about them. Cohen said that the studies were completed to know how they see the world with their eyes. The science of whitetails sight is still a mystery for the hunters as well as the wildlife experts.

Findings Pigment in 1950s

Rod and cone structures were noticed on the deer’s retina in 1950s. According to the researchers, the whitetails have pigments on their eyes that response to colors of light. Moreover, the optical properties are likely to be the human eyes too!

Dr. Jerry Jacobs with Dr. Jay Neitz gave a bright light to the study of the deer’s eye sensitivity to wavelengths of light. They have found that whitetails have two classes of receptors while human have three classes of receptor.

The deer can’t see middle to long wavelength lights at all. For example, they can’t feel the differences of the green, yellow, red and orange. With the two classes of receptor, they can see the short and long wave lights. For example, deer can easily red and watch the blue and yellow lights. That means they do not have the ability to read the similar kinds of colors.

The study on deer eye sight has provided many important concerns about deer hunting community. When a master hunter knows the perfect knowledge what deer can see, it is become easy to avoid those detections.  The research team has changed the ways of hunting in the modern days and modern hunters are losing the skills of traditional hunters.

Seven deer were trained in the study to respond positively to the light. The training took place on the basis of providing food. One food with LED light and another without light are placed near to the trough. All the deer are positively responded to the trough that has light.

By increasing and decreasing the wavelength lights in every day, we easily recognized what light and intensity they could see and could not see. Therefore, the study gives them researcher’s power to draw the complete picture of the light and the environment of the whitetails eye sight.

The scientific studies and researches meant nothing to the world if they can’t help to enhance hunting ability. According to the whitetails eye sight studies’ findings, deer are strong at blue and UV colors. In fact, they can see much better way than human for the blue and UV ray colors.

To have clear idea about the whitetails eye sight is important for every hunter. This has made the hunting big deer easy than previous generations. More and more modern equipments are invented and studies are going on to invent more about the sight.
